The market for veteran big men in the NBA just became a bit smaller on Monday morning as the Chicago Bulls announced they have re-signed former center, Nazr Mohammed.

More from Chicago Bulls

A sixteen-year veteran, Mohammed’s return to the Chicago Bulls seemed rather unlikely given the team had spent money elsewhere and the free agent big man had worked out for a couple teams during the offseason. However, possibly unable to land the type of contract and/or role that he was looking for elsewhere, Nazr Mohammed decided to return to his former organization.

The Chicago Bulls announced the signing on Twitter.

Mohammed isn’t much more than a end of the bench talent at this point of his career, though bringing him back keeps him away from potential competition like the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat, both of whom expressed interest in the big man.

It also gives the Chicago Bulls extra insurance if they do indeed trade Taj Gibson at some point this season or if there was an injury in the starting front court.

Terms of the contract were not released, though, it’s doubtful that Nazr Mohammed received more than a veteran minimum salary. It will be the third consecutive season for Nazr Mohammed in the Windy City as he’s now played for eight organizations.
