The Los Angeles Clippers are clearly one of the most talented teams in the league while the team they share a building with, the Los Angeles Lakers, are at one of the lower points in their history. That has helped the Clippers’ gain more fans than ever before but even the Clippers’ players believe the Lakers still rule the city.

More from Los Angeles Lakers

In an interview with Zach Baron of GQ, Clippers’ power forward Blake Griffin admitted Los Angeles is still a Lakers’ town.

"The Lakers had a disastrous off-season. Are the Clippers finally the alpha team in L.A.?No, because for a lot of people, it’s about history. And nothing we can ever do will ever take away from their history. They’ve had unbelievable success as a franchise. And I think in this current day, we’re the better team. I do. But I mean, if you ask anybody that, they’re gonna say that, you know—so that’s not a real controversial statement."

Obviously, it is still a Lakers’ town but with the Lakers likely in for another tough season, it can temporarily become a Clippers’ town during the postseason.

Griffin was fantastic for the Clippers last season, looking like a legitimate MVP candidate. After carrying the team when star point guard Chris Paul was out, he finished third in MVP voting. On the season, he averaged 24.1 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 52.8% from the field, 27.3% from beyond the arc and 71.5% from the charity stripe. In his four-year career, the number one overall pick of the 2009 NBA Draft has put up 21.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 52.8% from the floor, 23.2% from three and 64.2% from the charity stripe.
