The Tennessee Titans have face-planted in the last two weeks after a promising Week 1 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. They scored 26 points against KC and have scored 17 points in their last two games combined. The team needs any spark it can get and one would assume eventually they’d look to their second-round pick from the last draft, running back Bishop Sankey, for more offense. Not so fast, says coach Ken Whisenhunt.

It seems that using them to average six yards per run against a stout Cincinnati Bengals defense wasn’t a proper use of Sankey’s feet in Whisenhunt’s opinion. Shonn Greene also got 10 carries in the team’s 33-7 loss to the Bengals and accrued 33 yards with zero receptions. Sankey added a nine-yard reception to total 69 yards on 11 touches.

We’re not sure what footwork Whisenhunt is referring to in the running-and-gaining-yards department, but perhaps he’s more alluding to the pass protection aspect of the game, where Sankey could be struggling as a rookie. Still, the Titans have only allowed four sacks in their last two games while they’ve scored the second fewest points in the league.

It might be time for the Titans coaching staff to take the plunge despite initial concerns and let Sankey run the ball some more. Shonn Greene may be doing well for now, but the staff knows what Greene can and can’t do. Sankey’s potential is still out of sight and he could provide some big plays for an offense that desperately needs such.
