The Cleveland Cavaliers have holes in their roster that need to be filled and not every position can be occupied by a top free agent or a veteran.

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

Adding LeBron James, Kevin Love and the lot of veterans Cleveland reeled in helps, but finding a rim protector won’t be an easy find and it may end up being a less than flashy choice. According to Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon-Journal, while comparisons between the Heat and Cavaliers will get overplayed this year, it appears that Lou Amundson could be a poor man’s Chris Andersen for Cleveland.

"I don’t want to spend this season making constant comparisons between the Cavs and the Heat superpower teams (some will be inevitable), but Lou Amundson might be the Cavs’ poor man version of Chris “Birdman” Andersen – a tough, physical defender and rebounder who was picked off the clearance rack. Both guys are limited offensively, but both bring a lot of energy and tenacity to the court."

Cleveland actually tried to go out and get Birdman this summer, as he played well with LeBron in Miami and filled a need that the Cavs have for a rim protecting center. Amundson has qualities that are similar to Birdman — and has way less tattoos — and he could help the Cavs out this season.

It’s hard to say who will step up and who won’t but Amundson is no doubt a player to keep an eye on.
