Although Keyshawn Johnson never played a snap with Boomer Esiason, he apparently didn’t need to be on the field to critique the play of the former Pro Bowl signal caller.

More from New York Jets

Johnson was called out by Boomer Esiason on radio Tuesday morning after the former wide receiver called out fan favorite Wayne Chrebet, calling him a ‘mascot’. Keyshawn Johnson didn’t appriciate that Boomer was talking about him which resulted in the former USC talent suggesting that Boomer was ‘trash of a quarterback’.

The ESPN analyst might be facing some discipline over this one.

As if that wasn’t enough, Keyshawn Johnson continued his ribbing of Boomer Esiason, calling him ‘gum under his shoe’.

Boomer has yet to respond to Johnson’s comments, though sparked the fire by suggesting the following on WFAN.

“I just hated the fact that Keyshawn Johnson called him the mascot of the Jets,” Boomer said. “Totally disrespectful. If you put Keyshawn Johnson and Wayne Chrebet in a room together and you looked at the guys, you’d say, ‘OK, who’s gonna be the better player?’ You would say that Keyshawn Johnson would be because he’s more gifted and everything else.

“But I’ll tell you what. You take Wayne Chrebet’s heart out of him and put it into Keyshawn Johnson, you got Jerry Rice. That’s basically what you have.”

It doesn’t sound like these two will be sharing a Christmas dinner or anything this year. Should be interesting to see if either ESPN or CBS have anything to say regarding the ‘beef’.
