We’re still at least a month away until Robert Griffin III is healthy enough to return to the Washington Redskins, but he may not have a job when he does.

Expected to be out for 6-8 weeks after suffering a nasty ankle injury, Robert Griffin III wasn’t exactly lighting things up before he hurt himself and the impressive play of Kirk Cousins may lead to a quarterback controversy. That’s something Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden is well aware and when pressed about Kirk Cousins remaining the starting quarterback after RGIII returns, he wasn’t going to shut down the idea completely.

There’s really no point for Gruden to lean one way or the other right now as you certainly don’t want to anoint a player the starter due to injury, though you have to think a change could be in the plans assuming Kirk Cousins continues his high level of play.

Not only does he look like the better quarterback between the two when healthy, the Washington Redskins offensive scheme is more tailored towards the strengths of Kirk Cousins.

Of course, if Kirk Cousins comes back down to earth and the Washington Redskins aren’t winning, it seems doubtful that Jay Gruden and Daniel Snyder would yank Robert Griffin III from his job.
