The Washington Redskins will be without their starting tight end for a few more weeks.

Jordan Reed admitted on Tuesday that he won’t be available for the team’s Thursday night contest versus the New York Giants, according to Mike Jones of the Washington Post.

While this obviously isn’t good news for the Redskins, especially considering it sounds like this absence could extend past Thursday, the team has survived without Reed.

Niles Paul has played in place of Reed and has racked up 253 yards and a touchdown on 18 grabs. He will again get the start at tight end on Thursday.

Reed suffered a hamstring early in Washington’s Week 1 contest versus the Houston Texans and hasn’t seen the field since.

The Redskins drafted Reed with the No. 85 pick of the 2013 NFL Draft. He caught 45 passes for 499 yards and three touchdowns throughout his rookie year. Reed is an excellent talent as a pass-catcher. His biggest problem has been staying on the field and that doesn’t appear to have gone away.

Paul has been with the team a few years longer, as a fifth-round selection in 2011. Paul totaled just 14 receptions during his first three NFL seasons.
