The NBA career of former Iowa State Cyclones star DeAndre Kane is on hold at the moment, as he will be taking his talents to Russia this year instead of the pros. Kane was a star with Iowa State but he failed to get drafted this past summer and didn’t garner much interest on the free agent market.

NBA scribe Chuck Myron opines that Kane might have a career in the NBA but there’s a reason why he’s not on an NBA roster at the moment.

"I didn’t see him play in college, but he did receive a fair amount of buzz prior to the draft. I count eight teams on record as having given him predraft workouts, and there were probably more, since teams often try to hide info on whom they bring in that time of year. Still, I think if he had a legitimate chance to make an NBA roster this year, he wouldn’t be playing in Russia, so I don’t think NBA front office are all that high on him."

There could be interest in Kane if he steps up in Russia and shows off his talents, as he wouldn’t be the first player in history to secure an NBA contract that way. But he has work to do and only time will tell if he latches on enough in Russia to make waves that reach the States.
