According to NHL on NBC, Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux is “frustrated”.

Due to lower body injuries inflicted upon the 26-year-old during the first day of pre-season training camp, Giroux will miss at least the next two games played by the metropolitan division team. He seems confident that he’ll be ready to go by at least Thursday’s game, and has stated that he will unquestionably be in the lineup by the first game of the regular season.

  • So basically,  Claude Giroux — who the Flyers have arguably been building around since drafting him in 2006, — will be lucky to play even one pre-season game?

Of course, Carolina fans are probably making evil eyes at me for even suggesting that this is something to complain about- as are New York Rangers fans, and Detroit fans, and Columbus fans… yeah, this pre-season has been a bloodbath.

For a team that struggled in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs last season, though, and hasn’t seemed to find any kind of rhythm during any recent season, having the team’s star forward miss an entire pre-season can hurt them immensely. He’s going to go into the team’s first match-up against the Boston Bruins on October 8th, rustier than everyone else. The Flyers were hoping to enter this season with a bang, courting their shiny new toy (R.J. Umberger, who’s not actually all that new). This isn’t likely to happen at this point.
