Brian Hoyer to remain Cleveland Browns starting QB

It would appear that despite some speculation that rookie quarterback and former Heisman trophy winner Johnny Manziel would start in week 5, the Cleveland Browns will be sticking with their original choice for the starting position. Brian Hoyer, as reported by Ian Rapoport, is set to go against the Tennessee Titans in Nashville this coming Sunday.

The Browns are currently 1-2. However, despite what that record might indicate, they have remained competitive in every game this season. Their combined losses come at just five points in total. Hoyer has been relatively efficient this season, completing 64.2% of his passes for 716 yards, three touchdowns and 0 interceptions. His quarterback rating stands at 11th in the league with 97.5.

Manziel, on the other hand, has yet to really have a chance to showcase his ability this season. Thus far, he has just one passing attempt, which went incomplete. Already resigned, Hoyer will look to continue his consistent play this season as the Browns try to improve upon last year’s 4-12 record. That year, Hoyer was 3-0 as the team’s starter.

Cleveland is hopeful with its new look offense that it can make a serious play for contention this year in the somewhat open AFC North. However, with the emergence of Andy Dalton and the Cincinnati Bengals, a division title might still be in the distant future.
