The Chicago Bulls and swingman Jimmy Butler have no interest in parting ways and the two are hoping to work out an extension in the next few weeks.

More from Chicago Bulls

“I want to be here,” Butler said via Nick Friedell of ESPN Chicago. “I think the Bulls want me here. So however long it takes, as long as we get it worked out. Basketball is my main focus, not really the contract situation.”

Butler went on to say the two side are working on an extension.

“They definitely are [working on it],” he said. “I think we’re really good right now, moving in the right direction. But that’s between them. I just got to be with my teammates and whatever I do between myself and that basket will handle that a lot easier.”

If they don’t get a deal done by the October 31 deadline, Butler will become a restricted free agent next season.

Butler averaged 13.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 39.7% from the field, 28.3% from beyond the arc and 76.9% from the free throw line last season. He has averaged 8.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 42.5% from the floor, 30.9% from three and 78.2% from the charity stripe in his three-year NBA career. The Bulls selected Butler with the 30th-overall selection in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft
