With Ben Tate likely returning from a sprained right knee this week, the Cleveland Browns will have three talented running backs. All of them will want the ball, but Tate says it’s going to be tough to get everyone their touches.

As ESPN.com’s Pat McManamon writes, Tate’s return means fewer touches for either Terrance West or Isaiah Crowell against the Tennessee Titans Sunday.

"“That’s tough to have three running backs,” Tate said. “As a running back you want to get in a rhythm, so it’s tough to have three. But two? Yeah, I think definitely two running backs can get the job done.”"

The Browns signed Tate this offseason with the intent of him being the starter, but he sprained his right knee during an impressive preseason outing. He’s expected to return to the starting lineup this weekend. Meanwhile, West was drafted in the third round and was expected to be used to spell Tate. He’s played well, rushing for 204 yards and two touchdowns.

Crowell is the one who, in a sense, messes things up. The undrafted rookie has really impressed, averaging 5.2 yards per carry.

The Browns are certainly in a better situation at running back than they were last season, and having too much talent can’t be a bad thing. I see where Tate is coming from, but it shouldn’t play too much of an issue. Especially as he eases himself back from his injury.

Tate’s absence did give West and Crowell an opportunity to shine, and that will likely mean fewer carries than either the Browns or Tate originally planned for.
