Cleveland traded for Keith Bogans last week, but flipped him for a trade exception an a protected second-round pick. According to Nate Duncan from Basketball Insiders, the Cavaliers are unlikely to use their trade exception acquired in the Keith Bogans deal until next season.
"My guess is they wait until next season. I’m not sure who is out there for them this year. They really need a big to protect the basket, and those types of players aren’t available for that amount of money."
Many fans are going to want to see the Cavs use the exception on a center who can help protect the rim, but that’s not necessarily a player that Cleveland needs to trade for. Someone like Emeka Okafor may rise to the occasion and step up for the Cavaliers if he ever gets healthy,, which saves the trade exception for another move.
There’s no saying what kind of veteran turnover is in store for the Cavs in 2015, so saving that exception might pay off in the long run.
