Although Denver Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried remains insistent on his desire to receive a max contract, it apparently won’t be happening.

The Nuggets have already shown an unwillingness to commit to Faried and still seem indifferent to the idea, at least at Faried’s price. Given that, the Denver Post believes Kenneth Faried will not be given a max contract by the franchise though thinks they could start off his salary near $12 million annually.

"There have been some who have predicted Faried would get a max deal, but given the comparables at his position, power forward, and the fact that he’s still got his best basketball ahead of him, there’s no way this contract will be a max deal. But it will be a significant jump in salary. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least to see it end up around an average of $12 million per year."

It’s going to be difficult for Kenneth Faried to turn down a $12 million per year salary, especially given the uncertainty of free agency. That said, the salary cap is expected to jump at season end and teams looking for a budding star like the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers will have plenty of change in their pocket to spend.

You’d think the Denver Nuggets would like to get something done before the October 31st deadline though understandably can’t afford to break the bank either.
