The Detroit Lions are planning to play without the skilled power back in next Sunday’s contest against the Buffalo Bills. In order to have another back ready to go in back up behind Reggie Bush, the Lions have signed running back George Winn off of their practice squad.
George Winn is a 23-year-old back out of the University of Cincinnati. He was un-drafted in 2013 and signed by Dallas shortly after the draft. He was later cut and then picked up before the 2014 season by the Detroit Lions and assigned to the practice squad. Winn is 5’10”, 210-pounds.
He has big shoes to fill if he sees any time on the field Sunday. Joique Bell has been splitting carries for Detroit since the 2012 season and had a very successful year in 2013, splitting carries with new Lions running back Reggie Bush. In 2013, Bell had 650 yards rushing and eight touchdowns, along with 547 yards receiving. He’s a key component for the Lions high-powered offense. He remains questionable for Sunday’s game, but it looks more and more like he’ll be on the sidelines.
