New Milwaukee Bucks head coach Jason Kidd says the team isn’t expecting to win or even compete for a championship this season, and it’s “wide open” right now in terms of who will get minutes in the regular rotation.

Kidd said he feels the Bucks are both a deep and unique team, and Milwaukee will use the preseason to sort out its rotation, with the roles of several players still up in the air. Milwaukee especially has a glut of capable point guards, including the Bucks’ leading scorer last season, Brandon Knight, who was adamant that he was both one of the best players on the team and a point guard, rather than a shooting guard.

“At the end of the day, we’re going to put the best guys on the court,” Knight said. “I’m sure coach Kidd wants to win like we all want to do. The best players will be on the court and they will play. I know I’m going to be on the court because I’m going to show it in training camp, like I showed last year and like I show all the time. I’m a point guard. I know I’m going to be on the court as a point guard.”

In addition to Knight, the Bucks have Jerryd Bayless and Nate Wolters who are capable of playing both point and shooting guards. Giannis Antetokounmpo could also run the floor for Milwaukee, and O.J. Mayo can play shooting guard, though he had a poor season last year.

The Bucks won 15 games last season, so Kidd will likely have to play around with his rotations to get the correct fit in Milwaukee.
