The New Orleans Saints are still reeling from a 38-17 beat down at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys, but for all that the score indicates, the team actually had a chance to make a game of it late. Unfortunately they tried to get clever and it backfired, resulting in the Cowboys sealing the game.

Head coach Sean Payton quickly took the blame following the loss for calling a fake punt that gave the Cowboys the ball back with an easy score ahead of them.

Sean Payton wouldn’t let Morstead take the blame though, saying it was his call.

"“That’s on me, that’s not Thomas, that’s not Cade. That’s a play designed for misdirection. Dallas was in a punt safe, and I kind of felt like they would be. Really, that’s on me being impatient.”"

Payton has rarely been known for patience ever since his bold onsides kick to begin the second half of a Super Bowl in which the Saints beat the Indianapolis Colts. Trailing 31-17 in the fourth quarter, Payton thought he saw a chance to get his team back in the game. Unfortunately, this time he saw a mirage.

Payton concluded the explanation with an expression of remorse.
