The Washington Redskins have been struggling so far this season, but it isn’t due to a lack of wide receivers. Santana Moss has been one of the long-time weapons in the passing game, but that simply hasn’t been the case this year. He has yet to record any kind of stat, and he is beginning to get frustrated by sitting the bench as much as he has been.

From CBS Washington:

“Honestly, man, it hurts. It does. I’m not sure if it hurts more because I know these years count so much to me, or it’s just me knowing that I put so much in to be ready. And to be able to accept coming in knowing that it was going to be harder to just say, ‘Yea, I’m on this team.’ And all the other stuff, man, to finally be here and then sitting here and not being able to be a part of wins and losses. It’s just tough.”

Moss hasn’t dressed for any games this season and it is extremely strange after the big role that he has had throughout his career in Washington. At 35 years of age, he simply doesn’t have much time left in his career, and this could actually end up being his last season. The Redskins will likely figure out a way to get him some playing time at some point, but this stretch has been brutal for Moss as you can see from the above quote.

“But with all that said, they know they got out of me. They know how I come to work every day. I’m gonna keep working. I’m going to keep being positive. I feel like it’s always something good that comes out of situations like this. Knock on wood when I say this, but my career — regardless of how good it has been in a lot of people’s eyes — I’ve dealt with adversity like this before.”

Through his 13 NFL seasons, Moss has caught 722 passes for 10,167 yards and 66 touchdowns. If this is indeed his last NFL season, he will go out with a great career and as a true professional. It would be nice to see him get some playing time at some point this year, especially if the Redskins fall out of playoff contention early once again.

Expect to see Moss at some point this season and hopefully he can keep his head up and power through this adversity.
