Roy Hibbert and the Indiana Pacers have an uphill climb this season. Indy saw Lance Stephenson leave in free agency and Paul George be lost for the year with a leg injury, leaving its roster looking more like a possible lottery team than a top team in the Eastern Conference.

More from Indiana Pacers

Needless to say, the Pacers could use all the help they can get as they try to prove its doubters wrong and remain relevant. So the Indianapolis Star’s latest revelation that Hibbert reached out to San Antonio Spurs living legend Tim Duncan during the offseason makes a lot of sense.

Ball movement was an enormous problem for Indy last season, as they ranked 24th in points per game. With even less talent this year, the Pacers absolutely need to keep the ball moving if they are to be competent offensively.

Still, while Hibbert’s talk with Duncan was likely beneficial, it’s unlikely to have a huge impact. The Pacers don’t have the personnel to imitate the Spurs’ brand of basketball or Gregg Popovich at the helm.

But Hibbert clearly isn’t ready to throw in the towel on Indy’s season even with all the losses, and deserves credit for reaching out to Duncan here.
