NFL scandals keep on flowing, and showing the league doesn’t have it under control yet. Dallas Cowboys safety C.J. Spillman is being investigated for sexual assault relating to a September 20th incident in Grapevine, Texas.

It is a very serious accusation but it is important to remember that this is just an investigation and not a charge. The date indicates that the alleged incident occurred the day after NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s heavily criticized press conference regarding its discipline of Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson.

From the New York Daily News:

"Civil rights attorney Gloria Allred sent a letter to the commissioner on Sept. 26, a week after Goodell’s uneasy news conference, saying that she represented a woman who filed a police report alleging an NFL player had raped her. The alleged perpetrator, accompanied by a team official, met with police later that day, Allred said in the letter.“Thereafter, the accused was then allowed by his team to play the following day,” the letter added. “We have asked the NFL whether or not this alleged rape was reported to them and if they approved this accused individual’s playing in the game notwithstanding the allegations that had been made against him.”"

Things are about to get even messier for the NFL. This is the second scandal involving the Cowboys in recent months, the last being the racy photos involving Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and the ensuing lawsuit.
