As the NBA regular season came to a close, few were playing better than Detroit Pistons’ center Andre Drummond. After playing with Team USA in the FIBA World Cup, there are high hopes for Drummond in the 2014-2015 season.

More from Detroit Pistons

According to Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders, Drummond is in for a huge season.

"I think Andre Drummond could be poised for a monster season in Detroit. During the final month of the 2013-14 season, he averaged 18.4 points, 17.4 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.1 blocks while shooting 64.2 percent from the field. Now, he has Stan Van Gundy as his head coach, who knows how to use a dominant low-post player because he has coached Dwight Howard and Shaquille O’Neal. It seems that SVG will surround Drummond with shooters, like he did with Howard in Orlando. I think Drummond will be a beast this season. Other potential breakout players include Bradley Beal and Lance Stephenson (who could both be first-time All-Stars)."

Kennedy is right about Van Gundy’s impact – he should really help Drummond develop into one of the game’s top centers, much like he did with Howard.

Drummond averaged 13.5 points, 13.2 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.2 steals per game shooting 62.3% from the field and 41.8% from the free throw line last season. He was originally selected with the ninth-overall pick by the Pistons in the 2012 NBA Draft. In his first season as a pro, he went for 7.9 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game while shooting 60.8% from the floor and 37.1% from the charity stripe.
