Former Chicago Bears GM Jerry Angelo made some solid decisions during his tenure, but he is regretting one trade he wishes he could have back.

The Chicago Bears have had a nice upswing in recent years as they’ve become more bold in the moves they make. That risk taking started with former general manager Jerry Angelo, as he got bold more than a few times with his trades.

More from Carolina Panthers

First, Angelo traded for Jay Cutler in 2008 and then made a move in 2012 that led to the Bears eventually acquiring a former teammate of Cutler’s in wide receiver Brandon Marshall. The draft pick used to help acquire Marshall required Angelo to trade tight end Greg Olsen to the Carolina Panthers for a third round selection that ended up being no one anyone has heard of — sorry Brandon Taylor.

According to CSNChicago.com’s Tony Adracki, Angelo has expressed regret over trading Olsen to the Carolina Panthers back in 2012.

"“It was a mistake to trade him. I understand he wasn’t the ideal fit in the scheme, but we let our best receiver go. Obviously, it was Cutler’s favorite receiver at the time, and we let him out the door.”"

It’s hard to see this trade as anything but one-sided in favor of the Chicago Bears. Olsen is a solid tight end, but he’s not anywhere near the level that Brandon Marshall is at. Then again, there’s a reason Angelo isn’t the general manager of the Chicago Bears anymore and his mixed wires on the value of Greg Olsen versus Brandon Marshall is a likely reason.
