It’s another big week for fantasy football owners as the contenders start to separate themselves from the pack heading into week 5.  The way the bye weeks break down, the next few are no big deal compared to the week 4 stretch with just the Raiders and Dolphins on a bye this week.  If you’re trying to decide which QB to start, check the top 20 below.

More from Fantasy Football

Last week, four QB’s made their first start of the season with mixed results.  Teddy Bridgewater looked good winning his NFL debut, but he left late with an injury and is on a short week against the Packers Thursday night. Fellow-rookie Blake Bortles showed some flashes of potentail but the Jaguars were still hammered by the Chargers.  A non-rookie starting for the first time this season, Mike Glennon got his Bucs a big road win over Pittsburgh, while Charlie Whitehurst struggled in Inday against the Colts in place of Jake Locker. This week, there’s only one new signal-caller expected to be under center as Kyle Orton takes over the Bills’ job for an ineffective E.J. Manuel.

Here are the top 20 quarterbacks to start week 5 with the top ten here and the next ten on the following slide:

15. Brees turned in an uninspiring performance in Dallas last week, but he still finished with decent fantasy numbers with a pair of passing touchdowns and 340 yards of passing.  He has thrown for two touchdowns in each of his last three games and is in an amazingly good matchup this week.  Not only will the Saints be at home in the Superdome, but he also gets to face the Buccaneers defense that has allowed over 300 yards and three touchdowns in each of their last two games and even struggled against Derek Anderson and Austin Davis earlier this season.  Expect a huge week from Brees now that his receiving corps is healthier and he’s home on a fast track.. New Orleans Saints. Week 5 vs Buccaneers. Drew Brees. 1. player

45. Manning returns from his bye week with a tough matchup against a very good Cardinals secondary.  He’s Peyton Manning, though, so don’t get crazy. He’s a matchup-proof QB1 who should be in your lineup no matter what based on his incredible success since heading to Denver.. Denver Broncos. Week 5 vs Cardinals. Peyton Manning. 2. player

Week 5 vs Jets. Philip Rivers. 3. player. 13. Rivers continues to climb the rankings and gets all the way to number 3 this week as he and the Chargers host the Jets who have allowed the second-most fantasy points per game to opposing QB’s.  Rivers has thrown multiple TD’s in every game since week one and is coming off a masterful 377-yard, three-touchdown performance against the Jaguars.  The Chargers running back corps has been depleted by injury and the Jets run defense should force Rivers into plenty of passing where I think he’ll find space and continue his recent hot streak of solid performances against weak secondaries.  . San Diego Chargers

player. 49. Rodgers put on a show in the second half against the Bears, but he faces a vastly improved Vikings secondary on a short week.  He’s still an elite QB1, but temper expectations just a bit this week in a tough divisional matchup.  Still, though, there aren’t many better plays on a weekly basis than Rodgers.. Green Bay Packers. Week 5 vs Vikings. Aaron Rodgers. 4

Andrew Luck. 5. player. 46. Luck has joined the elite options this season and continued his domination throwing four touchdowns last week to beat the Titans.  He has 11 TD’s in his last three games and has thrown multiple touchdowns in every game this season.  This week, he’ll look to continue his momentum against the Raven’s D which has yet to face a top QB.  Baltimore’s defense hasn’t allowed multiple passing touchdowns yet this season despite giving up plenty of passing yards.  Luck will be their stiffest test yet, and since the game is in Indy, I think Luck will keep rolling and be a top 5 QB again this week.. Indianapolis Colts. Week 5 vs Ravens

50. Stafford had to improvise this last week with only a shell of Calvin Johnson as an ankle injury slowed Megatron.  Stafford still threw for a pair of touchdowns and 293 yards against a beleaguered Jets secondary, but this week he may find things a bit harder against the Bills.  Since he’s at home, he retains his QB1 status fairly easily, though, and should be in for another good game as long as it doesn’t turn into a total rout with Kyle Orton getting the start for Buffalo.. Detroit Lions. Week 5 vs Bills. Matthew Stafford. 6. player

7. player. 36. Before the bye, Wilson was last seen leading an overtime game-winning drive over the Broncos in Seattle.  This Monday night he’ll lead the Seahawks across the country to play in Washington D.C. against a defense that has been crushed the last two weeks by Eli Manning and Nick Foles.  With all the prep time, there may be a little rust early, but expect Wilson and the Seahawks to show up and dominate in another primetime matchup.  Wilson is a QB1, but there is risk since the Seattle attack is still a run-first offense.. Seattle Seahawks. Week 5 @ Redskins. Russell Wilson

55. Big Ben gets another tasty matchup after facing the Bucs at home last week.  The Tampa game led to solid numbers for Roethlisberger owners even though Steelers fans were less than thrilled with the final outcome.  Big Big threw for 314 yards and three touchdowns, and he’ll look to continue that roll as he takes on the team allowing the most points to opposing QB’s–the Jaguars.  Roethlisberger is a low-end QB1 with plenty of upside, although there is the the game could get out of hand and result in plenty of work for Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount instead.. Pittsburgh Steelers. Week 5 @ Jaguars. Ben Roethlisberger. 8. player

The lesser Manning isn’t quite ready to challenge his brother among the elite fantasy options, yet, but the last two weeks he’s been among the best options in the league. He’ll look to stay consistent as he faces the Falcons at home in New York looking to build on his eight passing touchdowns in his last three games.  The Falcons defense has struggled on the road, so Manning should be a low-end QB1 this week... New York Giants. Week 5 vs Falcons. Eli Manning. 9. player. 31

Atlanta Falcons. Week 5 @ Giants. Matt Ryan. 10. player. 44. On the other side of the field from Eli, Matt Ryan will try to help the Falcons figure out their road woes against a Giants D that has looked much better in the last few weeks even though they’ve been playing poor passing attacks. Ryan has thrown three touchdowns in three of his four games this season and remains a QB1 in the Falcons pass-heavy attack.
