Miami Heat big man Chris Andersen is known for his hair and tattoos. He’d rather be known this season for his jump shot.

The Miami Heat lost LeBron James this summer but they still managed to cobble together a pretty decent team without him.

One of the big returns this summer was big man Chris Andersen, a guy Miami Heat fans ahve taking a strong liking to over his time spent in South Beach. Despite his appearance, which draws most of the attention towards him, Andersen wants to be known as more than just a strong personilty on the team.

According to Shandel Richardson of the Sun Sentinel, Andersen wants to improve his jump shot this year and put less strain on his body down low.

"“I was told a long time ago, even though I’m called Birdman, you can’t jump forever,” Andersen said Wednesday. “Like [Shaquille O’Neal] says, you have a certain amount of jumps in your career.”Translation: he wants more scoring opportunities with less wear on the body.“To step out and have that confidence to shoot the 15-footer, a lot of people haven’t seen it or don’t expect it,” Andersen said. “This year, [coach Erik Spoelstra] says he’s going to implement it into the game plan.”"

Andersen isn’t a young man anymore and needs to preserve his body as much as possible. That’s hard for a post player to do, but we’ve seen forward and even some centers transition to a jump shot game in the past. Andersen wouldn’t be the first player to do it, and the Miami Heat would be grateful to see him improve even more in 2014-15.
