Packers coach Mike McCarthy breathes a sigh of relief

The Green Bay Packers are currently sitting at 3-2, but have already played an extremely tough schedule through their first five games. Head coach Mike McCarthy was very happy with the way that his team played against the Minnesota Vikings, and rightfully so. McCarthy is also very relieved that the tough start to the schedule is over with, and that they can now look forward to the remainder of their season.

“Excellent team victory. The defense broke the game open with the takeaways. Clearly a dominant victory. We’re glad these three games are over. To have three division games that early, and all in a row, that caught our attention. We knew it was going to be a tough stretch. We went 2-1.”

McCarthy and the Packers were forced to face the Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, and Vikings in consecutive weeks, which is never an easy task for any football team. All three of those teams are familiar with what the Packers run, and they are all big rivalry games as well. That being said, the Packers fought through those games, and have a winning record.

Not only did Green Bay have to face three division opponents, they also had a tough season-opening game against the defending champion Seattle Seahawks. Despite all of the early adversity that the Packers have faced, they are still right in the NFC playoff race and are just behind the Lions for the NFC North division lead. Green Bay will now look ahead to their game against the Miami Dolphins that is next on the schedule.

Aaron Rodgers helped calm down Packers’ fans and the team by telling everyone to relax, and he has backed up that quote in the past two weeks. The Packers finally have their offense clicking, and the defense came through as well against the Vikings as McCarthy mentioned. At this point in time, the future is looking fairly bright for the Packers if they can continue playing the type of football that they have been the last couple of weeks.
