Steve Spurrier shares his thoughts on Gamecocks after Kentucky loss

It’s amazing the things you learn after a few weeks into the college football season. Coming into this year, there were a lot of people that saw it as a near lock that Steve Spurrier and South Carolina would walk away with the SEC East title, easily. Heck, some even said they could take the SEC.

Well, here we are, six weeks in and the Gamecocks are 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the SEC. Their latest loss came on Saturday night, when they were defeated by the Kentucky Wildcats. Yes. The Kentucky Wildcats.

As you would imagine, following that 45-38 defeat, Steve Spurrier wasn’t hesitant  let his thoughts be known on this group of players he has.

“Y’all watched it,” Spurrier said. “We’re not a great team. We know that. Hopefully we can play better the rest of the season. I told the guys, ‘We’re going to try to have a winning season, somehow. We’ve got to do some work to do that.’ We’ll try to make some changes somewhere. I don’t know exactly where, but we’ve got to do something.”

The offense isn’t that much of a problem, as they gained 500 yards against Kentucky. However, the South Carolina defense is a whole story altogether. They’ve been consistently bad so far this year, and that trend continued on Saturday as they gave up 447 yards to the young Kentucky team.

Changes will be made, like Steve Spurrier said. But, like he also noted, it’s going to be a difficult task figuring out where to start.
