The Miami Heat, however, didn’t have much interest in retaining Michael Beasley. Instead, he wound up agreeing to a training camp contract with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Heat president Pat Riley said they moved on from Michael Beasley once LeBron James left for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“I love Mike, but we’re moving on,” Riley said via Ira Winderman of The South Florida Sun Sentinel. “When [LeBron James] left, we just cleaned the table. It’s time to move on. It really had nothing to do with anything but we’re just moving in another direction, in another way, and it was nothing punitive, there was nothing bad.
“I wish him nothing but the best. But we decided, in the long run, Josh McRoberts and Shawne [Williams], Chris [Bosh], Chris Andersen, Udonis [Haslem] and the guys we had there. I didn’t want him to be put in the position of not playing, maybe.”
Beasley put up 7.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in 55 games last season. He shot 49.9% from the floor, 38.9% from beyond the arc and 77.2% from the free throw line. Beasley has averaged 13.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 45.0% from the floor, 34.8% from three and 75.8% from the charity stripe in his six-year career career.
