The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are 5-0 for the first time since 2011 and trying to win their first ACC Championship since 2009 when they had Jonathan Dwyer and Demaryius Thomas. Georgia Tech is one of the ten remaining unbeaten teams in college football and they’re ranked 22nd.
Georgia Tech operates on a triple-option style, making the passing game not the focal point of the offense, but redshirt sophomore quarterback Justin Thomas leads the team with 470 yards on the ground and three touchdowns, while averaging six yards a carry. When passing, Thomas finds top wide receiver DeAndre Smelter, who has caught 14 passes for 339 yards and four touchdowns this season. Georgia Tech has been known to produce great wide receivers including Calvin Johnson and Demaryius Thomas who are dominating the NFL now and Smelter may be the next one join the Georgia Tech alums.
Georgia Tech is coming off a key 28-17 win of Miami and now will face Duke and North Carolina back-to-back before facing Pittsburgh. The Yellow Jackets have to finish their season with a game against Clemson and then an away game against Georgia, but if they can continue to get pre-game speeches like the one above, don’t be surprised if they soar to victory.
