In the offseason, forward Gordon Hayward signed a four-year, $63 million offer sheet with the Charlotte Hornets. The Utah Jazz chose to match the offer, retaining Gordon Hayward and further committing to their young core.
Obviously, with so much money invested in Gordon Hayward, the Jazz are banking on his development and believe he can be the type of player – and leader – they need.
In Tuesday night’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Gordon Hayward looked the part. He had 14 points on six-of-12 season, dished out five assists and grabbed four rebounds. Plus, he had one extremely impressive play that Trail Blazers’ big man Joel Freeland would probably like the forget.
Gordon Hayward went around a pick and headed for the basket. Freeland notices too late and Gordon Hayward puts him on a poster.
Check out the video below:
Freeland finished with seven points and four rebounds in the Trail Blazers’ 109-105 loss.
Hayward averaged 16.2 points, 5.2 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game for the Jazz last season. He shot 41.3% from the field, 30.4% from beyond the arc and 81.6% from the free throw line last season.
