Golden State Warriors’ guard Klay Thompson has become quite the topic of conversation.
Throughout the offseason, Klay Thompson was at the center of the Kevin Love rumors. The Minnesota Timberwolves wanted Klay Thompson in a Love deal but the Warriors reportedly wouldn’t part ways with their sharp-shooting guard. Love, of course, was dealt to the Cleveland Cavaliers for a package that included number one overall pick Andrew Wiggins.
Now, Klay Thompson is looking for a max contract and the two sides have until October 31 to work things out or Klay Thompson will become a restricted free agent.
The negotiations obviously aren’t bothering him – Klay Thompson scored 25 points on nine-of-13 shooting with three rebounds and two assists in just 25 minutes in a 120-105 preseason victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night.
After the game, one of his heroes, Lakers’ guard Kobe Bryant, had high praise for Klay Thompson.
“He has the whole package,” Bryant said of Thompson, who grew up in Southern California idolizing the Lakers star via Diamond Leung of Inside Bay Area.
Bryant is just one of the many vouching for Klay Thompson and is probably one in a long list of reasons he is demanding a max deal.
Klay Thompson averaged 18.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 44.4% from the field, 41.7% from beyond the arc and 79.5% from the charity stripe. In his three-year career, Klay Thompson has gone for 16.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 43.5% from the floor, 41.0% from three and 82.7% from the charity stripe.
