Boston Red Sox fans were spoiled with trades at the deadline but there could be more action on the horizon that sees Oakland and Boston make another deal.

Jon Lester went from the Boston Red Sox to the Oakland A’s this summer but that might not have been the last of the deals between the Red Sox and A’s. The trade that sent Lester to Oakland was a blockbuster, but the A’s were involved in more than just that one move.

In addition to acquiring Lester, the A’s grabbed starters Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammels from the Chicago Cubs before the deadline came and went, and now one of those players could be on his way to Boston this winter.

According to Boston Globe reporter Nick Cafardo, the Red Sox and A’s may engage in trade talks that would send Samardzija to Boston, thus giving the team the starting horse they need.

"The feeling is he’ll listen to offers on Samardzija this offseason. If that’s the case, count the Red Sox as one of the possible interested parties. The Sox inquired with the Cubs about him before the trade deadline, and they would not give up a package that included lefthanded pitching prospect Henry Owens."

There has been talk of Lester returning to Boston this offseason, which could still happen. James Shields and Max Scherzer have similarly been discussed and there was talk of a Cole Hammels trade at the deadline. Trading for Samardzija is a bright move for the A’s, and it’s one that could result in the team landing the ace they need to anchor their starting rotation in 2015.
