The Buffalo Bulls fired head football coach Jeff Quinn seven games into his fifth season at the school

Jeff Quinn has been fired as the head coach of the Buffalo Bulls, according to Coaching Search, after the team lost to the Eastern Michigan Eagles on Saturday to fall to 3-4 on the year. Offensive coordinator Alex Wood has been named the team’s interim coach.

Quinn was in his fifth season at Buffalo after he replaced Turner Gill as the team’s head coach and had a career record of 20-36 overall and a 13-22 record in the Mid American Conference. Quinn’s best season came in 2013 when he guided the Bulls to an 8-5 mark and a second place finish in the MAC East that earned them a berth in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl they lost to the San Diego State Aztecs.

His Buffalo team was led by Khalil Mack the last four seasons who developed into one of the top defenders in NCAA history with the most forced fumbles in FBS history and ties for the most tackles for loss. Mack was the No. 5 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders.

Quinn’s teams showed slight improvements in his first four years after he went 2-10 his first year in 2010 to a three-win team in 2011, a four-win team in 2012 before having his breakout season last year with eight wins.

However, the team’s lackluster loss against Eastern Michigan who ranks as the No. 125 passing offense, No. 125 scoring offense and No. 123 scoring defense was too much for the school to continue the rest of the season with Quinn guiding the team for for five games left on the schedule.

Buffalo is idle this week so Wood will have an extra week of preparation to get used to his new role with the team in advance of their Oct. 25 game against the Central Michigan Chippewas.
