MVP, Derrick Rose has played in just 49 games since taking home the award, including zero during the 2012-2013 season and just 10 last season.

The Chicago Bulls’ star began his comeback by playing for Team USA in the FIBA World Cup. Bulls’ head coach Tom Thibodeau was part of the staff that won a gold medal in Spain.

Although Derrick Rose got that tuneup, Tom Thibodeau still believes his timing is off.

‘‘In order for [Rose] to get his timing, he has to play, and he has to work,’’ Thibodeau said via Joe Cowley of The Chicago Sun Times. ‘‘Right now, his timing isn’t there. It’s a big adjustment for everyone. Everyone has to get used to what he does on the floor. The only way you can do that is by being out there.

‘‘It depends on the work he puts in when he shakes that rust off. The game is played collectively. There’s a lot of work for him and Jo. I’m concerned about that.’’

Obviously, Derrick Rose’s health is the key to the season. Now that Pau Gasol is a member of the team, they have a legitimate second option offensive for Derrick Rose and on paper, the Bulls look like a legitimate challenger to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference.

Derrick Rose averaged just 15.9 points, 4.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 31.1 minutes per game while shooting 35.4% from the field, 34.0% from beyond the arc and 84.4% from the free throw line in 10 games last season season. In his career, he has averaged 20.8 points, 6.8 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game while shooting 46.0% from the field, 31.2% from three and 81.5% from the charity stripe.
