Deron Williams Really Likes New Coach Lionel Hollins
Deron Williams has looked healthy and revamped throughout the preseason and so far he is a huge fan of his new coach Lionel Hollins.
Deron Williams has had a rough go of it so far through his tenure with the Nets. Williams wasn’t particularly fond of old coaches Avery Johnson and P.J. Carlesimo. It was hard for Williams to co exist with close friend Jason Kidd last year and it was clear that the Nets needed to get a coach that isn’t scared to discipline Williams and isn’t scared to demand the best out of him.

When Jason Kidd shocked the whole NBA and left Brooklyn to join the Bucks, the Nets were in a state of shock and terror. They had no idea who would be their coach and they had no idea about what their roster would look like next season. The Nets signed Lionel Hollins to be their new coach, a guy that is hard nosed, tough and a winner. Hollins was fired from the Memphis Grizzlies in 2013, even after leading that group to the Western Conference Finals. Immediately after getting the job with the Nets, Hollins called Deron Williams to tell him that he needs him to be in top shape and ready to go by training camp.
Apparently Williams listened closely to Hollins phone call. Williams has looked aggressive and healthy through the Nets first 3 preseason games and most importantly, Williams appears to be having fun in the process. NetsDaily was told that Williams appears upbeat and he seems to really like coach Lionel Hollins. This is probably the first time in a while that Williams has actually liked his head coach.
Maybe a guy like Deron Williams needed a coach that is not afraid to push him to the limit. Lionel Hollins doesn’t care who the player is, if a player doesn’t show Coach Hollins respect he will let them ride the bench. The Nets will need Deron Williams to be healthy and continue to be the captain of the ship. So far in the preseason Williams has looked like he’s more focused on being a playmaker than being about himself. This is Deron Williams and Brook Lopez’s team. If those two are healthy and at their best, the Nets can surprise a lot of their doubters this season.
