The University of Miami (Fla.) will face LSU at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington on September 1, 2018 in the annual Advocare Cowboys Classic, which will help open the college football season.

News of the match up against the Hurricanes marks the second time the Tigers have been linked to future contests against the nation’s premier college football programs. LSU had earlier agreed to a home and home series against Texas during the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Miami (Fla.) and LSU have played each other 12 times, with the Tigers holding a 9-3 edge over the Hurricanes. The two teams have only played twice since 1968, with Miami (Fla.) trouncing LSU 44-3 during the 1988 regular season, while the Tigers won the most recent contest by topping the Hurricanes 40-3 in the 2005 Peach Bowl.

Alabama and Wisconsin will face off in next year’s Cowboys Classic, while USC will play Alabama in 2016. The 2017 Cowboys Classic will pit Michigan and Florida.

The 2018 contest will mark the third time LSU has played in the Cowboys Classic. The Tigers, then ranked third in the nation, opened the 2011 season with a 40-27 victory over then fourth-ranked Oregon. They most recently played in the 2013 version of the series, as they defeated then 20th-ranked TCU 37-27.

The Advocare Cowboys Classic began in 2009, as then 20th-ranked BYU shocked third-ranked Oklahoma 14-13. The game was also the first college football game played in AT&T Stadium.

Since opening in 2009, AT&T Stadium has hosted Super Bowl XLV, the 2014 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four and will host the first National Bowl College Championship Game next January. It is also rumored to be the site for WWE’s Wrestlemania 32 in 2016.
