The Seattle Seahawks trading Percy Harvin to the New York Jets was motivated by his salty relationship with the organization and franchise quarterback Russell Wilson

The stunning trade that sent Percy Harvin from the Seattle Seahawks to the New York Jets caught many observers of the NFL by surprise when Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported the two sides had agreed to the trade for the former first round pick. After the initial shock of the trade wore off, the whispers of Harvin’s personality and poor relationship with Russell Wilson led to his being dealt to the Jets.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, “While the truth may never fully emerge, initial indications suggest that there was stress between Harvin and quarterback Russell Wilson, with Wilson feeling too much pressure to get the ball to Harvin.  That pressure surely came from only one person — Percy.”

  • Harvin was acquired for a first round pick and additional draft picks in 2013, but the Seahawks were unable to fit him into their game plan and after six regular season games and 23 catches the Seahawks were ready to pull the plug on the disappointing receiver.

The move to trade him is an easy one for Pete Carroll and the franchise to ensure a strong locker room and avoid a toxic environment with Harvin hampering the team’s efforts to win back-to-back Super Bowls and creating unnecessary drama that could distract the team from achieving their ultimate goal.

His me-first attitude and propensity to lash out in anger has already reared its ugly head.

The Seahawks have a Super Bowl to show for their trading of Harvin, but credit Carroll and the Seahawks for knowing when to walk away and clean their hands of a player who wasn’t a big part of the offense and accept a conditional mid-round pick for the talented, yet frustrating receiver

In the loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Harvin had six touches for minus one yard and has just 225 yards from scrimmage with one rushing touchdown as he continues his career as one of the more disappointing players in the NFL.
