The Edmonton Oilers are apparently ‘building winning habits’ in the NHL by not losing as badly Friday night

The difference between a struggling franchise and a playoff contender becomes painfully clear when a team is interviewed after a loss.

The Boston Bruins and Colorado Avalanche are starting off the season worse than anyone could have possibly expected, recording a combined three wins between the two clubs in eleven season contests thus far.

The Edmonton Oilers, in contrast, have happily picked up their fifth loss in five games this October, falling 2-0 to the Vancouver Canucks Friday night.

During a post-game interview, though, Oilers netminder Ben Scrivens seemed to be looking up. Where Boston and Colorado have criticized their play all week, and franchises like Arizona and Los Angeles have found fault even in the margin of victory they have come by thus far, Edmonton’s goalie suggested his team is ‘developing winning habits’.

“They got one quality chance and buried it. We couldn’t do the same on ours. We’ve got a lot of work left to do,” he said on  the Oilers’ Twitter account.

This might be the most positive response to a loss I’ve seen yet this season, as the team records it’s worst season start to date coming off eight consecutive playoff misses.

It previously seemed as if the Oilers were most weak on defense, but this game saw the team go scoreless, as well. They will play the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night, but won’t play another franchise with a similar record until next Friday, when they face off against the Florida Panthers.
