There is officially a new record holder for most touchdown passes in NFL history. Both quarterbacks have meant a lot to the league, and they have both handled this milestone with extreme class.
Manning broke Favre’s record on a eight-yard pass to Demaryius Thomas in the second quarter against the San Francisco 49ers. Here is the play:
Needless to say, this is a huge moment in NFL history and it was handled with such class. Manning has gone through a lot in his career to get here, and it’s amazing that he is still playing the level of football that he has been in Denver. The Broncos have put together a great offensive unit around him, and his players play extremely hard for him each and every Sunday.
Favre was very much the same way as Manning as far as toughness and leadership. He gained the respect of every one of his teammates, and led by example on the field. Just like Manning, Favre had to deal with quite a few injury issues throughout his career but always found a way to rise above them and succeed.
Tonight is about Manning and the career that he has put together, but the NFL and the fans cannot forget what Favre brought to the game either. Both players are to be recognized tonight. This is exactly what is amazing about sports, and Manning still has more records and goals to pass before he calls it a career.
Now Manning sits at 509 touchdowns throughout his 16-year NFL career, and there will likely be plenty more coming before he hangs up the cleats. This is an awesome night for the NFL as a whole, and the record couldn’t have been broken by a quarterback that loved the game more. Manning is truly a student of the game, and has worked each and every day to get to where he is at.
