Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman shot down any reports of a feud between Brandon Marshall and Jay Cutler after the team’s dismal performance against the Miami Dolphins resulted in an angry locker room

Following the Bears 27-14 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday that saw Chicago drop to 0-3 at Soldier Field this year, Brandon Marshall and some of his Bears teammates were angry and frustrated with the “unacceptable” performance. Some reports indicated a rift between Marshall and quarterback Jay Cutler who was reportedly “called out” by his longtime teammate.

However, Bears head coach Marc Trestman dismissed any notion of a budding feud or any tension between the two competitors at his Monday afternoon press conference.

“I think our team is very much together,” Trestman told reporters on Monday, via NFL.com. “This is a very close football team. I think what people get caught up in is the emotions that happen after a game. In 20 years of NFL locker rooms, what goes on in a locker room after a game, is a lot of things can go on, because people handle winning and losing differently.”

Marshall and Cutler have a friendship that dates back to their time with the Denver Broncos and have been through a lot together on and off the field. In fact, their relationship was an overriding factors in the Bears trading for Marshall three years ago.

“We allow players to — we’re not judgmental about players expressing themselves. We know that people care about this football team. Some do it quietly. When you lose, some have a smile on their face. There’s those that get terribly angry and have to relieve that anger coming down from a game. We don’t make any more out of it.”

Players get heated, football is an emotional game, Marshall is an emotional person, but the real story is not whether players are angry after a humbling loss to the Dolphins, but rather if they weren’t angry and expecting more from their teammates after such a performance.
