Abbott’s article outlines how the Lakers have missed out on top-tier free agents as a result of Bryant’s presence and how the shooting guard is partially responsible for the team’s recent downfall.
For example, Abbott quotes a “source close to Lakers decision makers” about Bryant:
"“He wants to win. But only as long as he’s the reason we’re winning, as long as the performance is not affecting his numbers. No one works harder than Kobe. And no one sabotages his own efforts more. He’s scaring off the free agents we’re trying to get. We’re trying to surround you with talent and your ego is getting in the way.”"
Not surprisingly, this article has made Lakers and Kobe supporters very angry.
Enter Flea.
Jackson, Bryant’s former coach in Los Angeles, let it be known that he agrees with Flea’s take on the matter.
Surely, Flea and Jackson’s comments will only fuel the fire of Lakers fans upset with Abbott.
