The San Diego Chargers, coming off a tough loss to the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t need to be down a man in their secondary in their Thursday night tilt against the Denver Broncos. But unfortunately, that’s exactly what’s going to happen as defensive back Brandon Flowers has officially been deemed out for the divisional matchup.
Flowers was hurt as he made a tackle on running back Jamaal Charles which sent both players to the ground and knocked the helmet off Charles. The running back, who admitted he saw bright lights, didn’t undergo a concussion test though Flowers did and was removed from the game.
Now with the short turnaround time there simply was no way for the defender to get cleared and be back on the field for the Thursday Night Football tilt.
He won’t be the only member of the San Diego Chargers to miss time with a head injury either as running back Donald Brown will miss yet another contest as he too deals with concussion issues.
As for a potential Brandon Flowers return, the quick week will give the corner some additional time to be on the mend and it’s possible he’ll be able to suit up for San Diego’s Week 9 matchup against the Miami Dolphins in South Beach.
The loss of Flowers will be felt hard against Peyton Manning and the Broncos as San Diego’s secondary is significantly depleted, especially if Jason Verrett and Steve Williams miss the game. Both are considered questionable for the tilt with shoulder and groin injuries respectively.
Sounds like Manning and company may have one hell of a night if San Diego can’t get healthy quickly.
