Memphis Grizzlies’ center Marc Gasol will likely be the top available player on the market one the summer of 2015 begins.
Like Marc Gasol, both Portland Trail Blazers‘ power forward LaMarcus Aldridge and Cleveland Cavaliers‘ power forward Kevin Love will be unrestricted free agents, but no one expects them to go anywhere.
Of course, both the Grizzlies are Marc Gasol continue to express their desire to remain together beyond this season. After the Grizzlies decided to extend power forward Zach Randolph, many believe they will do what they can to keep Marc Gasol, having already decided to keep their core group together.
However, there has been a lot of speculation the New York Knicks could be a destination for the 2012-2013 Defensive Player of the Year. After all, his brother, Chicago Bulls‘ power forward Pau Gasol, flourished while playing under Knicks’ president Phil Jackson with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Grizzlies don’t seem eager to move Marc Gasol either, but that doesn’t mean a trade is possible.
“As for the Knicks, I don’t think Rondo’s getting trade until after December 15th, at the earliest, and Gasol continues to be a free agent target,” writes Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors. “Would get interesting with Gasol if the Grizzlies start slowly and fall far behind the playoff teams in the West, however.”
The most likely scenario remains the Grizzlies hanging on to Marc Gasol and rewarding him with a nice contract provided things go well.
Despite missing 23 games last year, Marc Gasol fought off injuries to average 14.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 47.3% from the field, 18.2% from beyond the arc and 76.8% from the free throw line in 59 games. In his career, he’s averaged 13.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 51.2% from the field, 15.2% from beyond the arc and 74.9% from the free throw line.
