The 2014-2015 NBA season will tip-off their regular season on Tuesday night without their reigning MVP.

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks, meaning he won’t be in action when the Thunder travel to Portland to take on the Trail Blazers next Wednesday night.

Kevin Durant is anxious to get back on the court but is confident the Thunder will be just fine behind point guard Russell Westbrook. That’s why Kevin Durant plans to take his time and make sure he is completely healthy before he gets back on the court.

“I’m not going to rush it at all,” Durant said via Darnell Mayberry of The Oklahoman. “That’s one thing I’m not going to do. I’m sure I’ll feel better in two or three weeks. But I definitely don’t want to rush it. So I’m taking my time with it. (I’m) blessed that it happened early in the season so I can get past it and hopefully by December I’ll be ready to play.”

Kevin Durant thought about alternatives to having surgery but in the end, he thought surgery was the best option.

“If I would have kept playing on it, got no surgery, it only would have got worse,” Durant said. “So I talked to the doctor and they told me the best thing to do was to get surgery on it and let it heal that way.”

He had a screw placed in his foot.

“I knew I had to go through it,” Durant said. “I knew it was going to take some time (to heal), but it’s needed, something that’ll help my foot in the long run.”

Although it could cost them a home game late in the postseason, the Thunder and Kevin Durant are doing things the right away in making sure Kevin Durant is completely healthy.
