Keys to Victory
The Patriots’ have been decimated by injuries in recent weeks, losing both running back Stevan Ridley and linebacker Jerod Mayo for the season. They will need to compensate for those losses. Shane Vereen (who’s brother, Brock Vereen, is a Bears’ safety) filled in well – he scored two touchdowns in the Patriots 27-25 win over the New York Jets last week but they had trouble moving the ball on the ground. They will look to get either Brandon Bolden or Jonas Gray, who surprisingly entered their last game before Bolden, more involved in the offense. Tom Brady and his receivers have been on the same page and they will look to exploit the Bears’ secondary, which is something they are clearly capable of doing.
The Bears are going to have to get to Brady and although the Patriots’ offensive line is playing better, that is certainly possible. Offensively, the Bears have to limit mistakes. The Patriots have thrived on turnovers so far this year. If Cutler can avoid interceptions, they can certainly score on this Patriots’ defense, especially with their only consistent pass rusher, Chandler Jones, out for a month with a hip injury. The Patriots have improved in the secondary and should be even better as Brandon Browner gets adjusted to the team but if Cutler has time to throw, he should be able to pick apart the defense with his elite targets.
Betting Odds
Point Spread: New England -7.0
Moneyline: NE -260, CHI +220
O/U: 50.5
Prediction
Both teams should be able to put points on the board but I trust Brady to make the right play at the right time more than I trust Cutler to do the same.
Final Score: Patriots 31, Bears 24
