Houston Texans vs Tennessee Titans

DE J.J. Watt can only do so much for the Houston Texans, who look to snap a three-game losing streak when they visit LP Field against the Tennessee Titans. Watt continues to play at an MVP-caliber, but the rest of the Texans must shake off the stench of Monday’s 30-23 loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Titans have lost five of their last six games, but hope the return of injured QB Jake Locker will spark an offense that ranks near the bottom of the league in scoring.

Keys to Victory

At some point, Texans QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will have to the take the pressure off RB Arian Foster. Fitzpatrick has just an 8-7 TD-INT margin and is averaging a pedestrian 214.6 yards per game. The Titans’ 22nd-ranked run defense will go all-in with stopping Foster in the attempt to force the Texans to throw more than coach Bill O’Brien’s game plan has in store. A healthy Locker must bring life to a Titans offense that averages just 17.3 points an outing. He looked to be on the right course before a thumb injury in the October 5 loss to the Browns cost him two starts. If he doesn’t play, it means Tennessee must count on Charlie Whitehurst for a third straight game.

Prediction

This is a must-win for the Texans, who can ill-afford to fall further behind the AFC South leading Colts. At this juncture, someone not named Foster or Watt has to take the reigns and help carry the load for Houston. The Titans stand a better chance of winning if Locker’s thumb is healthy and he’s capable of making plays.

Final Score: Houston: 24, Tennessee: 19
