Did Jason Garrett giving up play-calling duties for the Dallas Cowboys help turn the franchise around?

More from Dallas Cowboys

After a couple of disappointing seasons the Dallas Cowboys are back to being royalty in the NFL and currently sit atop the league with the best overall record.

Needless to say, things are going just about as perfectly as possible in Big D and barring a late season collapse, a playoff birth is on the horizon.

What has changed though? Sure, there are a few new faces but for the most part the Dallas Cowboys returned much of the same roster. Yes, DeMarco Murray is running a bit more which allows some of the burden to escape Tony Romo, but might it be something else that has helped the Cowboys turn the corner? Possibly head coach Jason Garrett turning over the play-calling duties?

That’s the belief of Bob Sturn who thinks Garrett no longer calling plays is a big reason as to why the Dallas Cowboys are achieving such success.

"It is clear he has benefited big time from passing off play-calling and being able to focus more on his job as the leader of the team on the sideline and a more macro approach to the job. Play-calling for a coach is just such a big responsibility that it seemed to hinder his entire job."

While Jason Garrett giving up the Dallas Cowboys’ play-calling duties isn’t the lone reason for the improved play it does seem to have made a significant impact.

For what it’s worth, Sturn also believes the turnaround has all but secured a contractual extension for Jason Garrett though didn’t expand on when he believes such will happen.

Clearly though, given the Cowboys’ strong play, it seems as if there has been a complete turnaround for the franchise.
