The clock is ticking down for the Chicago Bulls to sign small forward Jimmy Butler to a contract extension to avoid him being a restricted free agent at the end of the year, but he remains confident a deal will get done

Jimmy Butler and the Chicago Bulls have until Oct. 31 to come to an agreement on a new deal to avoid him being a restricted free agent at the end of the 2014-2015 season and the two sides remain far apart on a deal.

Butler was named to the NBA All-Defensive team last year and routinely guards players like LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony and the opposition’s top perimeter players and have a developing offensive game to go with his upper-echelon defensive prowess.

With players like Gordon Hayward and Chandler Parsons signing deals for four years for $63 million and three years for $46 million, respectively, in the offseason, Butler is likely seeking a deal with a similar average annual value. While the two parties remain far apart on the terms of a new deal, Butler remains confident it will all be figured out at the end of the day and wants to be a Bull for a long time.

The Bulls are no stranger to negotiating up to the deadline as they went to the final hour with power forward Taj Gibson last year before he signed a four-year, $33 million deal moments prior to the deadline.

With one week remaining for Butler and the Bulls to come to an agreement, a similar outcome could be in store for the former first round pick out of Marquette.
