Lance Briggs Injury Update: Chicago Bears Linebacker Out For Third Straight Game
Lance Briggs will miss his third straight game for the Chicago Bears as he continues to recover from a lingering rib injury
The Chicago Bears will be without veteran weak-side linebacker Lance Briggs for the third straight game on Sunday when the Bears travel to take on Tom Brady and the New England Patriots from Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.

Briggs has been working his way back from a rib injury that continues to linger and keep him on the inactive list. In his absence it won’t be Khaseem Greene who has been starting at the weak-side with him out, but rather undrafted free agent Christian Jones out of Florida State who makes his second career start and first on the weak-side. He started at strong-side linebacker in the win against the Atlanta Falcons when the Bears had their top four linebackers out.
Jones played extensively in the fourth quarter in last week’s loss to the Miami Dolphins as defensive coordinator Mel Tucker wanted to get an extended look at him with Greene struggling.
"“You know we play a lot of guys,” Tucker said Wednesday, via the Chicago Tribune. “And Christian, obviously we like when he’s on the field. Khaseem didn’t play a perfect game. I don’t think any of us did and we all need to get better but we feel good with the group that we have, and we’ll continue to compete and practice and then we’ll see how the lineup shakes out for this weekend.”"
The Bears linebacking corp has been a M.A.S.H. unit all season long with five different starting combinations through seven games already with Briggs, Shea McClellin, Jon Bostic and D.J. Williams all missing action. Bostic is also out for the Bears on Sunday.
Greene, a fourth round pick in the 2013 NFL draft out of Rutgers has been a disappointment while the Bears may have found a diamond in the rough in Jones who never should have gone undrafted in the first place after the 6-4, 232-pounder had 207 combined tackles in his final three seasons with the Seminoles.
“It is a great opportunity for me and right now I am just doing what I can to try to help out the team,” said Jones, who has 12 sacks and two quarterback pressures. “Credit goes to the older guys and they have been making me feel comfortable out there. They have been helping me out with confusing stuff and I have been getting a lot of positive feedback.”
