The Kansas City Royals have only lost one postseason game this year and they weren’t about to lose a second in their first game out in San Francisco in the World Series.

Kansas City Royals fans were a bit spoiled this postseason as the team went on an eight game run through the American League playoffs and ended up in the World Series without having lost a single game in the playoffs. That all ended in Game 1 of the World Series when they were shelled by the San Francisco Giants and went down a game in the series.

That whole winning streak thing is back though, as the Royals have won two straight World Series games on their way to a 2-1 series lead.

It was thanks to the solid work of the Royals bullpen that they marked another win in the series, as Jeremy Gurthrie went five innings before being pulled and the bullpen took it the rest of the way home. Perhaps the most impressive performance on the night was by reliever Brandon Finnegan. The rookie reliever became the first pitcher in baseball history to pitch in both the college World series and the MLB World Series in the same year.

He came in and got two huge outs for the Royals in the seventh inning to get Kansas City out of a huge jam. The bats of the Royals got the runs in, but it was the stellar bullpen work that preserved the lead.

With a 2-1 series lead, the Royals will now try to close out the series in the next two games but the Giants will not go quietly. The team is determined to get back into the series and with just one game separating the two teams, anything is still possible in this World Series.
