After San Diego Chargers safety Jahleel Addae initially denied suffering a concussion in the team’s loss to the Denver Broncos Thursday, the team admits he did.

As Week 8 of the NFL regular season kicked off, one of the biggest storylines to emerge was not the way Peyton Manning and Emmanuel Sanders led the Broncos to a big win over the Chargers, but the lack of concern about Chargers safety Jahleel Addae.

During the game, Addae seemed to have suffered a concussion.

Addae made a big hit early in the game and instantly collapsed face first into the ground. Later, he ran into a pile of players and bounced backwards — clearly disoriented and convulsing to a point that it appeared to some he could be having a seizure.

Initially, Addae denied suffering a concussion in the game.

However, the San Diego Chargers are now admitting that Jahleel Addae was concussed, according to Pro Football Talk.

It was troubling to see Addae out on the field in the condition that he was in and it was even worse to see the Chargers neglect giving him the proper attention.

If people on television could see Jahleel Addae out on the field struggling, someone in the box or on the sideline easily should have seen the safety showing what appeared to the rest of the viewing audience to be concussion symptoms.

Allowing him to remain in the game was disgusting to watch.

The NFL clearly still has a long way to go with their concussion protocol and caring for the safety of the players, so this should be a learning experience to all teams to pay closer attention. It is just a shame the lesson had to come at the expense of Jahleel Addae’s health.

The NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell should strongly consider fining the Chargers organization for their gross negligence.
